The 2019 NFL Draft takes place in downtown Nashville, for the first time. The event is one of the most exciting events on the NFL calendar each year. Here’s what you need to know to enjoy the Draft as a fan.
Festivities go from Thursday, April 25 to Saturday, April 27 in Nashville, home of the Tennessee Titans. The first round starts on Thursday, with the second and third rounds taking place on Friday. The final four rounds happen on Saturday.
Logistics and Time Frame
There are any number of ways to get to Nashville. Nashville International Airport is about 20 minutes away from the downtown site of the Draft and is likely the best option for fans. In addition, fans may drive as three major Interstate systems (I-40, I-65 and I-24) go into the city.
This is the latest evolution in the Draft traveling from NFL city to NFL city. The Draft went from New York to Chicago in 2015, as well as Philadelphia and Dallas.
The league promises the most accessible Draft yet for fans. For instance, according to the NFL website, fans don’t need tickets to attend the “NFL Draft Experience.” The three-day event takes in the plazas directly across the river outside of Nissan Stadium. The NFL says festivities take place “up and down lower Broadway near the Cumberland River near Nashville’s famous honky-tonks.”
However, if you want to be near the main stage, you must download the Fan Mobile Pass app. According to this instructive article from Channel 5 in Nashville, random fans who enter the virtual line will receive a message and have 30 minutes to register and check in. Channel 5 says fans may “…join the virtual line for the Drafted Fan Zone beginning at noon on Thursday the 25th, noon on Friday the 26th, and 8 a.m. on Saturday the 27th.”
Also, the NFL does offer seating packages through its official vendor.
For country music fans, Tim McGraw and Dierks Bentley will be part of the festivities. McGraw takes the stage at the end of the draft on Thursday, with Bentley performing after Friday’s draft.
How to Enjoy the NFL Draft Experience
The 2019 NFL Draft Experience allows excellent opportunities for fans to interact with the league and other fans. It’s a huge improvement for fans after it was held indoors in New York. The outdoor setting gives fans the option to sit close to the stage.
Whether sitting or standing, one of the best ways to enjoy the 2019 NFL Draft Experience is to wear team colors for the event. For instance, some fans wear a jersey from their favorite teams, while others dress up in elaborate outfits. Fans come in helmets and pads, or suits with their favorite team’s logo all over it. In addition, face paint is common at the NFL Draft. With television cameras always looking for enthusiastic fans, dressing up is a great way to get noticed at the Draft.
Above all, the Draft is famous for fans of the NFL’s 32 franchises reacting to the picks as they come in. And being a part of that tradition is one of the things that make the NFL Draft memorable.
In conclusion, NFL fans love the Draft because of the hope that it brings each year. No matter how rough a team’s last season was, they have the opportunity to make a series of great picks to change their fortunes. And for fans who attend the Draft, they have the opportunity to see their team’s future improve in person.
