Sports Salsa’s Spicy 7 Weekend Games to Watch

The World Series and the NFL take center stage this week as two of the top 4 college teams take a breather. Still lots to watch this weekend.

October 26-28, 2018

With Alabama and Ohio State taking the week off, the focus is on the lower teams as they move into bowl positions. Plenty of great football on Sunday as the fight for the playoffs continues.

1. New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings
Sunday, Oct. 28, 8:20 pm ET
TV: NBC

The last time these two teams hooked up, Minnesota stunned New Orleans with a last play of the game that resulted in the Saints going home in the playoffs. It’s an excellent game to end the weekend, as the 5-1 Saints seek revenge against the 4-2-1 Vikings.

2. Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Dodgers
Friday, Oct. 26, 8:09 pm ET; Saturday, Oct. 27, 8:09 pm ET; Sunday (if needed), 8:15 pm ET
TV: FOX

Boston sent a statement with the first two games. Can the Dodgers recover and avoid a sweep? Great drama in this coastal battle.

3. #9 Florida at #7 Georgia
Saturday, Oct. 28, 3:30 pm ET
TV: CBS

A classic SEC contest that moves one team up in the playoff picture, while the other one drops out. A lot is on the line as both the Gators and Bulldogs meet in the “world’s largest cocktail party” in Jacksonville.

4. Baltimore Ravens at Carolina Panthers
Sunday, Oct. 28, 1 pm
TV: CBS

The 4-3 Ravens and 4-2 Panthers clash in an important game for playoff positioning. It’s the Ravens defense against Cam Newton’s offense. The game should provide plenty of fireworks.

5. Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday, Oct. 28, 1 pm
TV: CBS

The last time we saw these two teams on the gridiron, the game ended in a tie. Have the 3-2-1 Steelers improved enough to keep the 2-4-1 Browns down in the standings?

6. Edmonton Oilers at Chicago Blackhawks
Sunday, Oct. 28, 6 pm ET
TV: NHL Network, NBCSCH

If you need a break from football, this hockey game features a few future Hall of Famers, including the Hawks Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, as well as Oilers phenom Connor McDavid.

7. Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday, Oct. 28, 1 pm ET
TV: CBS

It’s always entertaining when these two rivals match up, but the 3-4 Broncos, who already have lost to the 6-1 Chiefs, are the underdogs in this rematch. But a chance to watch Patrick Mahomes make it a game worth checking out.

Other storylines to watch this weekend.

  • Only two of the top four college teams play this week. #2 Clemson travels to Florida State and #3 Notre Dame travels to Navy.
  • #18 Iowa travels to #17 Penn State for a Big Ten showdown.
  • #14 Washington State, moving rapidly up the rankings, goes to #24 Stanford, in a key game to see if anyone wants to take control of the league.
  • Might be worth getting up early on Sunday to watch the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are playing in Wembley Stadium in London. Both teams are 3-4 and a loss damages playoff hopes for either team.
